Have you been thinking about playing roller derby but have had hesitations? Well there is no time like the present to become a part of an incredible and empowering sport. Blue Ridge Roller Derby is always seeking new skaters. We have an open enrollment throughout our season.
Skater Tots Program
We invite skaters age 18 and older to join one of fastest growing sports in the world. Whether you grew up at the roller rink, or have never worn skates in your life, there is a place for you to learn and grow with Blue Ridge Roller Derby.
We call our beginners “skater tots” and we require new tots to observe one practice prior to gearing up. After your observation, you will join the rest of the tots in learning basic skills, progressing to contact skills when you’re ready. We currently practice Monday and Wednesdays 7-9 and Saturdays 10-12. A “roll model” works with the tots during one practice each week, and tots continue progressing on their own during the other two practices. We encourage our tots to come to as many practices as they are able, although there is no minimum requirement for attendance at this level.
In addition to open enrollment during the regular derby season, we often host Derby School in the fall. Derby school is typical once per week for two months, and is a fast track toward improving your skills for anyone looking to join later in the year.
In order to participate, you will need your own skates, helmet, mouth guard, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards. Blue Ridge Roller Derby has limited equipment available to borrow initially, if you do not yet own your own gear. The only thing you absolutely need to bring to your first skating practice is a heat-molded mouth guard.
For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Practices are closed, and we would like to know when you are coming to observe.

Blue Ridge welcomes transfer skaters. All transfer skaters must approach the head of the Training Committee to join the league. You may contact them at email@example.com
What if I want to observe your league prior to joining?
• Transfer skaters may attend 3 practices prior to committing to the league.
• After a transfer skater attends the third practice, dues must be paid.
Do I need a letter of recommendation?
• Please provide a letter of reference from your prior league to the head of Training. Letters should come from a coach and must list your most recent attendance.
What are the requirements of a transfer skater?
• Skaters must be currently contact eligible and have completed the WFTDA minimum skills assessment with their prior league.
• If the skater has not skated with any league for a period of time longer than two months and less than one year, the skater must reassess.
When do I start paying dues?
• Full dues must be paid after the third practice.
The Training Committee reserves the right to contact any prior leagues of the transferring skater. If the transferring skater has had disciplinary problems or any other problems of concern, the training committee will notify the Board of Directors. It will be decided by the Board of Directors if the skater shall be allowed to join the league. The Board of Directors reserves the right to place any transferring skater on probation if deemed appropriate. Transferring skaters must provide proof of insurance and sign a Blue Ridge waiver prior to skating with the league.
